Direct/Open System
Direct/Open System
A direct (or open) system features collectors on the roof and a storage tank somewhere below, usually a garage or utility room.
A pump is used to circulate the water from the tank to the collectors and back again.
The sun’s heat is transferred directly to the water which is circulating through the tank and collector.
Solene's
direct system without the photovoltaic (PV)
option
(following illustration on the left)
relies on your existing electrical system to power the pump on sunny days.
The Solene direct system with the PV option (following illustration on the right) powers the pump when electricity is not available, providing hot water even when the power goes out.
