Benefits of Solar Water Heaters

Saves money- Solar water heaters use the sun to heat your water for free while also using a backup heating function for days with less sun.

Lasts longer- Solar water heaters live for over 20 years - that's double the lifespan of a regular gas water heater.

Preserves our environment- Solar water heaters mainly rely on the power of the sun's rays to heat your water instead of burning of fossil fuels, which contribute to the greenhouse effect. According to Energy Star, a solar water heater will "reduce the load of your electric water heater by almost 2,500 kWh per year, preventing 4,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere annually. This is the equivalent of not driving your car for four months every year!"

How Solar Water Heaters Work

Solar water heating systems are made up of 2 main components:

  • Solar panel collectors
  • Solar water heater tank

Here's how they work together to heat your home's water:

  • The low-key solar panel collectors are installed on your home’s roof. The water within these collectors absorb heat from the sun's rays.
  • The heated water is then pumped into the solar water heater tank (installed either on the ground  or your roof)
  • As the hot water is being pumped into the storage tank, the cool water already in the tank is pumped into the collection plates using an electrical pump call the circulator
  • Back in the collectors, the cooled water is heated once again to repeat steps 1-3.
